A simple, painless† treatment that helps prevent up to 40% of cavities*
Fluoride is a natural mineral that strengthens tooth enamel — the hard outer layer of the tooth. Strong enamel resists the acids produced by bacteria in the mouth, which means cavities are much less likely to form.
A professional fluoride treatment at the dental clinic is much stronger than any toothpaste or home rinse. It is applied as a gel or varnish, takes just a few minutes, is completely painless†, and strengthens the teeth for 4–6 months.
This is one of the most cost-effective preventive treatments available. A single fluoride treatment can prevent cavities that would otherwise require fillings, pulp therapy, or even extractions — all of which are more expensive and more stressful for your child.
We explain every step to your child before doing it — so there are no surprises and no fear.
Dr. Sayli cleans the teeth gently and dries them so the fluoride can bond effectively to the enamel.
A fluoride gel is placed in a tray (like a mouthguard) that the child holds for a few minutes, OR a fluoride varnish is painted directly onto the teeth with a small brush. No drilling, no injections.
The child sits comfortably for 3–5 minutes while the fluoride soaks into the enamel.
After treatment, the child avoids eating, drinking, or rinsing for 30 minutes — this gives the fluoride maximum time to work. That is all.
Yes. Professional fluoride treatment is safe for children from age 3 upwards. The amount used at the clinic is carefully measured. Dental fluoride is different from excessive fluoride in water — this is a controlled, measured application.
Every 6 months for most children. Children who are prone to cavities or who eat a lot of sweet foods may benefit from every 3–4 months.
No. Fluoride treatment involves no injection, no drilling, and no discomfort. Most children barely notice it is happening.
No. Fluoride toothpaste contains around 1,000 ppm (parts per million) of fluoride. Professional fluoride applied at the clinic is 5–10 times stronger. The clinic treatment penetrates deeper into the enamel and lasts much longer.

* In a review of 22 clinical trials, fluoride varnish reduced tooth decay by about 37% in baby teeth and 43% in permanent teeth (Marinho VCC et al., Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2013, doi:10.1002/14651858.CD002279.pub2). Results vary with each child's diet, brushing and cavity risk.
† We use comfort-first techniques, numbing gel and local anaesthesia when needed, so most children feel little or no discomfort. Every child is different; we explain what to expect before any treatment.
